Microseismic Monitoring at the Farnsworth CO2-EOR Field

چکیده

The Farnsworth Unit in northern Texas is a field site for studying geologic carbon storage during enhanced oil recovery (EOR) using CO2. Microseismic monitoring essential risk assessment by detecting fluid leakage and fractures. We analyzed borehole microseismic data acquired CO2 injection migration, including denoising, event detection, location, magnitude estimation, moment tensor inversion, stress inversion. detected located two shallow clusters, which occurred increasing pressure. clusters were also featured large b values tensile cracking tensors that are obtained based on newly developed inversion method single-borehole data. inverted fields at the showed deviations from regional field. results provide evidence responses to CO2/fluid migration.

Surface and Subsurface Geochemical Monitoring of an EOR-CO2 Field: Buracica, Brazil

Surface and Subsurface Geochemical Monitoring of an EOR-CO2 Field: Buracica, Brazil — This paper presents a surface and subsurface geochemical survey of the Buracica EOR-CO2 field onshore Brazil. We adopted a methodology coupling the stable isotopes of carbon with noble gases to investigate the adequacy of geochemical monitoring to track deep fluid leakage at the surface. Three campaigns of CO2...

CO2 EOR and Storage in Oil Reservoirs

CO2 EOR and Storage in Oil Reservoirs — CO2 injection into tertiary oil reservoirs has been widely accepted as an effective technique for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), and has been used by the oil industry for over 40 years. Concerns over greenhouse gas emissions are leading to the investigation and realisation of its potential as a carbon storage method in recent years. With the right reservoir...

Using Vegetation near CO2 Mediated Enhanced Oil Recovery (CO2-EOR) Activities for Monitoring Potential Emissions and Ecological Effects

CO2 mediated enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) may lead to methods of CO2 reduction in the atmosphere through carbon capture and storage (CCS); therefore, monitoring and verification methods are needed to ensure that CO2-EOR and CCS activities are environmentally safe and effective. This study explored vegetation growth rate to determine potential ecological effects of emissions from CO2-EOR acti...

Microseismic Monitoring of the World’s Largest Potential Hdr Reservoir

The current phase of the European Hot Dry Rock Project at Soultz-sous-Forêts requires the drilling of two additional deep wells to 5000 m depth into the crystalline basement, to form a module consisting of a central injector and two producers. The first well GPK-2 was drilled to 5000 m in 1999 and stimulated in 2000. The well GPK-3 (the injector) was drilled in 2002 and targeted using microseis...

Microseismic Monitoring of CO2 Injection at the Penn West Enhanced Oil Recovery Pilot Project, Canada: Implications for Detection of Wellbore Leakage

A passive seismic monitoring campaign was carried out in the frame of a CO2-Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) pilot project in Alberta, Canada. Our analysis focuses on a two-week period during which prominent downhole pressure fluctuations in the reservoir were accompanied by a leakage of CO2 and CH4 along the monitoring well equipped with an array of short-period borehole geophones. We applied state...
